Promotional Signs go up in the town over what was a very windy weekend, where not alone did the group of boxers compete in a Saturday morning Technical session but they also now to begin to understand that their foot work might be one of the most important factors to do with their fight. As Coach Andy Murray keeps portraying "Get your Feet Right and your Hands and Body will follow"
Week 2 is now over and nearly all participants have completed 5 boxing sessions. Head Sparing was introduced tonight, and although not for the faint hearted some of the group were basically afraid to land a punch on someone else's head guard. As the sessions go on, each person will get used to giving and also taking some punches to both the head and the body.
Interest in general is starting to gather in this sequel of Fight Night's where we also ran a very successful campaign Easter last. That was in aid of Cystic Fibrosis and now in aid of the Breffni Blues Special Olympics Club in Cavan Town, members of the club have being keeping an eye on the level of commitment our participants are giving to the cause. At the end of the day come fight night, I am aware that people who enter the ring want to hold themselves in good stead. They want to be in reasonable shape to last the 3 x 1.5min rounds and also want to show the crowd what they have learned over the 7 weeks.
5 Weeks to go and already I can see the difference in the group. Bobbing and weaving is now coming into play as well as some nice hook shots to the body. Come Week 7 and these novice boxers will be ready to go.
Over the course of my next few blogs I will begin to name all the participants who are putting in such an effort in the Training Dome.
Keep an eye out for all the promotional signage, and remember to jump onto Cavan's Freaky Friday Fight Night Facebook Page to like it.
Remember come October 21st, The Crowd will Go Wild..

Cavan's Freaky Friday Fight Night Supporting the Breffni Blues Special Olympics Club

Week 1 is over already.
Hi all and welcome to my new blog. If you are interested in following the journey then check our my weekly entries of my blog.
Cavan's Freaky Friday Fight Night, supporting the Breffni Blues Special Olympics Club will be the 2nd whitecollarboxing.ie event that I have ran over the course of this year.
I guess my addiction of boxing began in 2000/2001 when playing in Melbourne, Australia where we used to do a fair bit in Pre Season to increase our fitness levels at the early part of the year. The non weight bearing training is a great way to improve your cardio levels of fitness.
Since coming back and getting to know former Olympian, Cathal O'Grady, owner and director of Whitecollarboxing.ie , I have been attracted to both the training sessions which mainly occur at the National Boxing Stadium in Dublin and also the various shows and events he puts on throughout the country.
The success of Cavan's Easter Rising fight night, led me to host a 2nd event where over 30 participants began to train last Monday evening in both the Hotel Kilmore, Training Dome and also in the National Stadium in Dublin.
Cavan's own Andy Murray and brother of former Olympian, Sean Óg Grady are the core trainers in what has been as intense introduction and week of training. From bandaging up the hands, the basic technique and the grueling core work, participants of all walks of life, different shapes and sizes, male and female are gearing up over the next 7 weeks to part take in a Las Vegas type show in the Hotel Kilmore on Friday, October 21st. Proceeds from the night go towards the Breffni Blues Special Olympics Club in Cavan Town.
I will keep you updated on the progress of my participants and I will let you know match ups in due course also..
I mentioned boxing for me is an addiction. I use the word "addiction" in the kindest way possible, as for me it is a great way to get into the zone and get rid of the worries of day to day living. Boxing has also a form of discipline that other sports do not offer. You can also note, Boxing is one of the safest sports to part take in and research suggests that playing field sports like Gaelic Football, Rugby and Soccer are higher up the scale in terms of injuries which relate to the chosen sport.
Remember the whitecollarboxing.ie slogan......"To become a Champion, you gotta fight one more Round"
